Geolocation is not just about triangulating with cellular antennas.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies also allow you to determine where you are in real time (and not only).
Operating system manufacturers such as Google (Android) and Apple (iOS) add most Wi-Fi access points and Bluetooth devices (as well as their location information) to their databases.
When turned on, every iPhone or Android smartphone actively scans – unless:
it is in airplane mode;
you have not specifically disabled this feature (or Wi-Fi itself) – the surrounding area in search of such points and devices by sending probe requests.
In fact, your smartphone is constantly collecting beacon frames transmitted by surrounding access points, recording network identifiers (SSIDs*), and using GPS to associate the MAC addresses* of these networks with your location.
*MAC– “Media Access Control” is actually a hardware number of the equipment (computer, server, router, switch port, whatever), which, pay attention, is assigned to the network card of the device at the factory, that is, at the time of production. An example of a number?
00:50:B6:5B:CA:6A– Doesn’t this remind you of anything? Such MAC tags began to appear via Bluetooth near injected people.
*SSID– Service Identifier of the network. It displays the name of the Wi-Fi network so that the user can access it from their devices.
As part of their telemetry data collection activities, Google, Apple and Microsoft receive, in particular, information about the results of such scanning. The problem for the user is that each such digital fingerprint (including the SSID of the networks with which the device has previously contacted; timestamps of contacts; signal strength; and the MAC address of the device itself) is unique – that is, it can be used to unambiguously identify the user and track his actions and movements.
They also keep a global record of all Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices. These accounts are a veritable treasure trove of information for those who want to track you (whether by the tech giant itself or by third parties it grants access to such records).
Strictly speaking, Google already knows with high probability where exactly every Android smartphone is located, regardless of the user's actions in relation to the device itself. Do you trust the settings that prohibit tracking your location? The entire operating system, in its entirety, was created by a company that needs data - yours and about you.
Tracking our location is not a problem now, but this is not the main thing for the system or the heroes of conspiracy theories ...
THEY NEED OUR PSYCHOLOGY!
For example, stores turn to this technology to remove fingerprints of the digital footprint of buyers, including the frequency of their visits, the departments and areas visited, as well as the duration of stay in a particular place within the perimeter of the outlet.
Afterwards, technologies of programming consciousness are introduced on the basis of the analysis of the received data, with the purpose of causing a professional trigger, — BUY! BUY! BUY!
Remember about free cheese? If you got some product for free, then the product here is you, but this, of course, is not certain...

The aforementioned big tech representatives are thus aware of the exact location of your device even when GPS is turned off.

Thus, the CONSUMER system reveals patterns of behavior of individuals in their preferences.
