Publishers are attacking shadow libraries to protect their rights and fight AI scraping.
Link-Busters has become the first anti-piracy organization to report more than a billion copyright-infringing URLs to Google. The most frequently deleted domains are Anna's Archive and Z-Library, and the most active copyright holder is Penguin Random House.
Google handles more removal requests than any other company. This includes content stored on Google Drive and YouTube, as well as links to pirated content indexed by Google. Recently it became known that the total number of deletion requests processed by the search engine is approaching 10 billion.
Link-Busters has sent its billion-dollar DMCA removal request to Google. At the moment, the counter is more than 1.20 billion rubles. requests, and this number may increase significantly as early as next week.
In terms of the number of requests, Link-Busters overtook MG Premium (Aylo's subsidiary) and left many competitors far behind. Analyzing the record indicators of Link-Busters, you can see that they are largely due to the activity of publishing companies. The rise of shadow libraries and the threat of AI data scraping have made companies particularly active in the anti-piracy fight.
The Z-Library and Anna's Archive online libraries allow the public to download books for free, which can also be used for AI training. To prevent illegal downloading and use, publishers try to make such sites inaccessible on Google. Of the 10 most attacked domains, 3 belong to Anna's Archive, followed by a series of Z-Library domains. These domains account for more than 220 million registered URLs.
The table also shows the main copyright holders working with the anti-piracy company. All of them are publishing companies, among which Penguin Random House stands out with more than $ 269 billion. requests for deletion. Other active request senders include HarperCollins, Simon and Schuster, and Hachette.
Publishers, judging by the reviews, are happy with the Link-Busters service. However, it is worth noting that a billion deletion requests does not mean a billion deletions from Google search. About 75% of registered URLs were deleted, while other URLs (21%) were not included in the Google index and were blacklisted. The remaining links were sent more than once (2%) or were not deleted for other reasons (1%).
Many millions of shadow library URLs duplicated on dozens of domains contributed to Link-Busters ' record-breaking performance. As the attacked sites remain resilient, we can expect further growth in numbers.
