Jason William Siesser, admitted to having attempted on two occasions to purchase a chemical weapon from a vendor on the Darkweb. The quantity of the chemical weapon ordered by the defendant was capable of killing hundreds of people after months of suffering, according to court documents.

On July 4, 2018, the defendant ordered two ten-milliliter units of dimethylmercury from a Darkweb weapons dealer.

Upon completion of the transaction on the undisclosed site, Siesser provided the seller with the address of a minor as a shipping address. At the time, Siesser worked in a foster home hosting young people under contract with the state of Missouri. The name and address Siesser had given the seller belonged to one of the minors under his care. The defendant continued to contact the seller.

On July 18 Siesser told the seller that he "planned to use it immediately upon receiving it." After realizing that the seller had never shipped his package of dimethylmercury vials, Siesser ordered three more vials from the same seller. On August 5, 2018, he transferred $ 150 worth of Bitcoin to the seller. On August 23, 2018, the FBI made a controlled delivery of an inert substance to the address left by Siesser. At 13.11 Siesser signed for the receipt of the package. Law enforcement officers watched him ventilate his house by leaving at least one door open. At 13.43 the police carried out a search warrant in Siesser's home.

During the search, the officers found the following items:

USPS shipping box delivered at 1:11 pm;

A discarded container that contained the substance Siesser believed to be dimethylmercury;

The substance Siesser believed was dimethylmercury;

Two boxes containing 10 grams of cadmium arsenide;

About 100 grams of metallic cadmium; About 500 ml of hydrochloric acid.

Letters expressing Siesser's pain and anger over a breakup. In his writings, Siesser wrote that he wanted the cause of his pain to die.

At the police department, Siesser admitted that he bought three dimethylmercury vials from a darkweb site for $ 52 per vial. He also said he used the name of the child in custody to prevent law enforcement from linking him to the purchase. Siesser explained that he had previously attempted to purchase dimethylmercury from a legitimate chemical supplier. The seller canceled the transaction after learning that Siesser did not have the necessary license to own him.

The agents have identified the ex-partner as a possible victim of Siesser's plans. In a court document, the FBI wrote that Siesser was about to purchase a $ 100,000 life insurance policy for his 72-year-old father, making the father a possible target.

On August 4, 2020, the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge of attempting to purchase a chemical weapon and to the charge of aggravated identity theft. The chemical weapon charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison
