A criminal group that embezzled more than UAH 6 million from corporate accounts will be tried in Ukraine

Cyber police officers, together with investigators from the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office, exposed a criminal group whose members stole funds from the bank accounts of leading industrial enterprises in Ukraine.

Cyber police operatives found that attackers infected the computers of employees of companies with malicious software. Thus, the defendants received hidden remote access to financial transactions and replaced the details of the recipients of funds with controlled ones.

Investigators of the National Police found that in this way the attackers caused more than 6 million hryvnias of losses to Ukrainian enterprises. However, the defendants could not agree on the distribution of the" earned " funds. Therefore, the organizer and co-organizer began to demand that the accomplice transfer his share to controlled accounts. Without getting what they wanted, the attackers kidnapped their "partner".

Thanks to the search measures, the police identified the vehicle in which the defendants were located and detained two defendants in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, eliminating the activities of the group.

Investigators of the National Police declared suspicion under Part 2 of Article 146 (Illegal deprivation of liberty or kidnapping) and Part 4 of Article 189 (Extortion). Of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and chose preventive measures in the form of detention. Now the pre-trial investigation on these facts has been completed. The defendants face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Investigative actions are continuing in the framework of criminal proceedings opened under Part 4, 5 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, concerning the theft of funds of enterprises by the accused and their accomplices. Additional qualifications are possible.
