The scale of the illegal startup reaches more than 100 GB of data per day.
In the Khmelnytskyi region of Ukraine, law enforcement officers stopped the operation of a VPN service that provided access to Russian sites, circumventing sanctions. The organizer turned out to be a 28-year-old man who has established the service since 2022 to access more than 48 million IP addresses on the Russian Internet. More than 100 gigabytes of data passed through the network per day.
To implement the project, the attacker created an autonomous server room in his apartment, and also rented servers in Germany, France, the Netherlands and Russia. The accused promoted the project through Telegram channels, thematic communities and international IT platforms.
Due to the restrictions and sanctions imposed by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), access to the Runet is prohibited. Therefore, Ukrainian Internet providers block access to Russian platforms from within the country.
Police conducted searches in Khmelnytskyi and Zhytomyr, where they seized server equipment, computers and mobile devices that contain evidence of illegal activity. The investigation is finding out the presence of possible accomplices and sources of funding for the service. The police are also considering the possibility of the suspect's ties to the special services.
The defendant was charged under Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - unauthorized interference in the operation of information systems under martial law. He faces up to 15 years in prison and a ban on holding certain positions for up to 3 years.
