The rise and fall of the illegal streaming platform.

The US Department of Justice has filed charges against the administrators of the illegal sports streaming site 247TVStream.

The brothers are charged with several crimes related to the management of the 247TVStream platform. The service provided subscribers with access to illegal broadcasts of sports matches and TV shows for $10 per month. During the operation of the site from May 2017 to November 2024, administrators allegedly earned more than $7 million.

One of the brothers, 56-year-old Noor Nabi Chowdhury from the United States, was detained, and his brother, 36-year-old Mohammad Rahman from Bangladesh, was put on the wanted list. The brothers are accused of creating an illegal digital broadcasting service, conspiracy to commit fraud and theft of personal data. The maximum punishment under the articles can be up to 28 years in prison.

According to the investigation, Chowdhury and Rahman acquired legal accounts to receive broadcasts, and then resold access to them to users of the platform. The losses of copyright holders from the actions of the defendants exceeded $100 million, and the earnings of the criminals themselves amounted to more than $7 million from payments for subscriptions to 247TVStream.

The 247TVStream website was shut down and its domain names were confiscated. In cooperation with the authorities of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, American agencies managed to disable the servers that provided the platform. Currently, a banner about the actions of law enforcement agencies is posted on the site.

The indictment includes 5 affected streaming platforms. In recent years, content companies and sports leagues have been actively working with the U.S. Department of Justice to combat illegal streaming services. Earlier this year, the US Department of Justice brought charges against five organizers of another streaming service, Jetflicks.
