Influence is more than just the desire to be a leader or the direction we give out to the listener. It depends on how people feel in us, and what they see in us every day. It depends on what you demonstrate with your behavior, not on your words.

Before we start the discussion, we need to define what it is like to influence others. And what does that mean to you.

Dictionary.com defines this concept as follows: Influence - the ability of a person or object to be an irresistible force or to have an effect on actions, behavior, opinions, etc. other people. Influence - to force or persuade (someone) to take any action.

John Maxwell, author of many bestselling books, says that “Being a leader is about making an impact. No more, no less".

If leadership is influence, then the opposite should also be true. So influence is leadership. Is it so? I would add that influence only turns into leadership when it leads to positive results. Meanwhile, there are two ways to influence. It can be either positive or negative. It can be self-serving and an attempt to manipulate others, but it can also be liberating and transforming. And what it will be depends on our thoughts and actions.

Influence is more than just the desire to be a leader or the direction we give out to the listener. It depends on how people feel in us, and what they see in us every day. It depends on what you demonstrate with your behavior, not on your words.

There are many ways to expand the boundaries of your influence. I offer 14 ideas. I think they can help at the very beginning:

1. Be aware of the impact
First of all, you need to accept the fact that no matter what position you occupy, you have an impact on the lives of those around you. Often we are not even aware of how we directly or indirectly affect others. But it is very important to be aware of what we are doing and choose the appropriate behavior.

2. Be principled and persistent
Let the person you consider yourself to be manifested in your every action. Don't contradict yourself. Don't look for easy ways. Create your image in the eyes of others and become an example for them. Your actions are determined by your aspirations, and your influence is determined by your actions.

3. Be sincere and open.
Don't play to the audience. Be real. Be honest. This builds trust, and trust increases influence.

4. Take responsibility
Don't make excuses. If you make a mistake, then immediately admit your guilt. Being a leader doesn't mean being perfect. Learn from mistakes and lead others forward.

5. Look for solutions to problems
Don't sit back and complain about your problems. Instead, try to solve them. Those who can solve problems look attractive in the eyes of others. If you become such a person, you can gain credibility - after all, you will open up new perspectives.

6. Be proactive
Don't sit back and wait for someone to take over. Take action if you want to positively influence events. Become the one who proposes new ideas, takes risks and leads to the desired future.

7. Enter the position of others
Take the time to understand other people's feelings. What prompts them to do this? What worries them? They won't pay attention to your ideas until you pay attention to them. But ... you have to be sincere. You should be really interested. People are more important than numbers.

8. Appreciate others and don't hide it
A simple "thank you" can work miracles, especially if it was said in front of strangers. Notice the efforts of others, cite them as brilliant examples for everyone to see. In doing so, you influence the actions of others, indicating which actions are right and right. We all want to be appreciated and praised.

9. Do not forget about the results of your behavior.
People notice everything. You may not always be in control of what is happening, but you can control your reaction to it. And those around you see your reaction. Do not give in to emotions, calm down, think about what is happening. Don't forget about the results of your behavior.

10. Look for the good in others.
It may seem strange, but in order not to fall into selfishness and manipulation, you should use your influence for the benefit of others more than for yourself. Help those who follow you. Let your influence serve to bring out something good in others. You can see potential in them, which they themselves do not notice. Help them uncover it.

11. Treat Others as You Would Like Others to Treat You
Don't think that these are just nice words. Bring them to life. If you want to be treated well, give others your good attitude first. If you want to be respected, respect others. Set an example and it will come back to you.

12. Learn to give
Don't be afraid to share what you know and can do. Share with others, help others. Let others count on you to share your knowledge. Give lightly, give often. Be the first.

13. Strive for the best
“Normal” doesn't always mean “really good”. Set yourself high standards that others will later adopt. When we raise the bar for ourselves, we encourage others to do the same. Spend a little more (time, effort) and maybe others will follow your lead.

14. Make the end goal clear.
People need to understand where they are going, they need perspectives. You need a clear vision if you are trying to constantly influence others. You need to understand where you are going if you are going to pull others with you. Be clear. Set planks. Have a dialogue.

Authority and influence do not appear in one thing. This is a complex set of abilities that are developed for more than one day. As Andy Stanley says, "Being a leader means being a responsible leader ... you are responsible for everything." And it doesn't matter where you apply these qualities - you sell Charlotte Antic Brass a hearth in your company or take the leadership in family affairs. If we take responsibility for our leadership, that is, for our "influence", we can force this influence to be reckoned with.
