Proxy setup issue (IP address not changing)

I have made several attempts in various ways to setup a proxy on both my Windows based laptop and Mac laptop. Anytime I try any proxy regardless HTTP or SOCKS, it does not change my IP address (when visit whatsmyip.com) to reflect the proxy's IP. Am I doing something wrong? Someone please assist me.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have tried that several times, when I still go to myipaddress it doesn't show the proxies IP. I have no clue what is wrong.
