For the 1st part of ur question what ur describing is the Membrane. This membrane records each keystroke while the skimmer records the mag stripe.

this is a very old post but note that i have designed this prototype couple months ago ago

I am aware how the procedure works. Original PINPAD holds encryption keys that will allow the pinpad to work correctly with the bank. Opening the pinpad incorrectly will trigger the self-destruct circuit which will wipe these keys and leave pinpad unoperational.

This is called tamper evidence and aperes in most POSes to.

So someone steals original & swaps with similar looking one, opens original carefully, installs skimmer & pin logger then goes back to store when it opens to put original back with logging equipment installed. Voila!

Oh sorry I thought you where talking about ATMs pinpad.

Now i understand you can purchase a skimmer and wire it to the reader head in a Y split formation to get the track dump or even install a sniffer along the serial port connection in Y formation using a labtop to get dump. Both methods have been done successfully. However the pin logging part is something i haven't had much luck with.

Can anyone help me locate some information on how to obtain such a device. Then how to open a pinpad without triggering the self-destruct & finally which solder points to solder the device to... so it can record the pins.

There is methods of jailbreaking the temper evidence but I am not familiar with those. But if you manage to open up the POS with success, you will fix the rest very easy. But mostly POS skimmers already saves the pin but I guessing you want to play with a real one.

That is the first request.... second will be how to transform a regular POS terminal into a dummy that does nothing but print out a receipt saying Connection Error or Approved. But that's for a later more advanced discussion that i will try to have with Nikkon.

That's not very hard, you will have to program a thermal printer, or if you could hook up the printer already placed in the POS to print the receipt for you.

I interrupt this tread tryng to solve a problem mine
i have a keylogger /rs232 logger , im using a old model for my distributor , however they chasnge the fucnking memory and now im experience troubles intercepting serial data.
im using a rs232 / rj45 memory.
some one have experience using this one?

u have to design one like this

11 - 1, 4,7
10 - 0, 2 , 5, 8

8 - enter

18- 7,8,9 +

then u map whit a multimeter and use a common keyboard circuit to collect the data. after that u put a keylogger and thats all. collecting pin whit your own circuit
