A committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan has considered and approved legislative amendments that strengthen responsibility for crimes in cyberspace, the press service of the country's upper house of parliament reports.

Amendments are proposed to the Criminal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Code of Administrative Responsibility.

In Uzbekistan, cases of blocking mobile devices, accounts or channels in social networks and instant messengers via the Internet have recently become more frequent.

"This often happens as a result of sending malicious programs, threats to delete, change or "drain" personal data, demand money or other material goods," the report says.

In addition, there are cases of falsification of photos, voices, and other biometric data of individuals in cyberspace.

Accordingly, the draft law provides for strengthening criminal liability measures for committing such acts. Sanctions for illegal trafficking in crypto assets, including mining, are also being tightened.
