Attackers steal billions by using ordinary people as pawns in their game.

China is joining forces with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and the United Nations (United Nations) to combat cyber fraud, which has become widespread in Southeast Asia.

Over the past two or three years, fraudulent schemes have brought attackers multibillion-dollar revenues. Many of them are based in remote workplaces, beyond the reach of law enforcement agencies, and use for their activities people who are in a kind of digital slavery, performing tasks of intruders against their will.

Most of these criminal groups are controlled by the Chinese, and many of them are known criminals. Their main methods include online gambling, dating scams, cryptocurrencies, and currency transactions.

To combat this threat, China, ASEAN and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime have developed a joint action plan. The main goal is to stop the activities of criminal groups and confiscate their illegal income, as well as to protect people who were abducted and are now being used for criminal purposes.

"The plan that the region has developed includes concrete actions to address transnational crime in an integrated and strategic manner," said Rebecca Miller, Regional Adviser to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

One of the reasons that prompted such cooperation was the amount of money that passes through criminals. The Agency estimates that fraud revenues in one Southeast Asian country can reach between $ 7.5 billion and $ 12.5 billion a year.

However, experts suggest that in the near future, South-East Asian crime centers will adapt and increasingly rely on highly qualified technical specialists, using artificial intelligence and text translation services to fraud across multiple nationalities and countries at once.

It is also worth noting that participants in Asian business hubs are already reporting a sharp increase in the number of cyber attacks that steal confidential company data.

As you can understand, in the hands of immoral criminal elements, modern technologies often become a tool of deception and exploitation. Cooperation between countries and international organizations in combating this threat is a key step towards creating a secure digital future for the entire world.
