Scammers from Kaliningrad region who deceived 50 people will be tried in Moscow

An investigator of the Investigative Department of the Department of Internal Affairs for the VAO GU of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow has completed the investigation of a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Two residents of the Kaliningrad region aged 26 and 28 will go to the dock.

According to investigators, from the end of 2021 to July 2023, the defendants organized a criminal group with the aim of obtaining illegal profits by fraudulent means. Being in the territory of their native region, they searched the Internet for information and photos of other people's residential premises in Moscow, including documents for them, and then placed ads on online sites for renting rooms and apartments in the capital.

The accomplices offered interested persons to show their accommodation, but only if they made a mandatory reservation and made an advance payment. Misled citizens agreed to the conditions of scammers and transferred them to accounts from 5 to 10 thousand rubles. After receiving the money, the scammers stopped communicating.

Mobile phones, SIM cards, laptops and bank cards that are of evidentiary value for the criminal case were seized during searches at the addresses of the attackers residence.

The investigation identified 50 victims from different regions of Russia. The total material damage amounted to more than 430 thousand rubles, which was fully compensated during the investigation.

Currently, the criminal case with the indictment has been sent to the court for consideration on the merits. The defendants are under recognizance not to leave and proper behavior.
