A resident of the capital faces up to five years in prison.

The Federal Security Service of Russia has stopped the activities of a Muscovite who distributed malicious software using the Telegram messenger.

According to the special services, a Muscovite born in 1990 was detained, who was involved in the sale of a computer program designed for unauthorized modification, destruction and copying of information. Moskvich found malware buyers through the site it administers. Customers who want to purchase the software had to contact the administrator via Telegram to clarify the payment details. After confirming the payment, customers received a file with the program, activation key, and video instructions on how to use it.

A criminal case was opened against the detainee under Article 273 of Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for liability for creating, using and distributing malicious computer programs for mercenary motives. For such crimes, the law provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to five years.
