Employees of the Regional Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Krasnodar Territory detained three residents of Kuban and a visitor from the Krasnoyarsk Territory. They are suspected of helping telephone scammers who operated from abroad.
"It was previously established that the attackers received several SIM boxes from the capital region through delivery services. These devices allow the passage of traffic from foreign countries to the territory of our country with the replacement of the number with the Russian one.
Using the instructions and current instructions that came from anonymous curators via messenger, the defendants installed equipment in the apartments and were engaged in its operation. They regularly exchanged blocked SIM cards for new ones, which they received by the hundreds via couriers along with monetary rewards, " said Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry.
The police, supported by Rosgvardiya employees, detained the suspects, three of whom had previous convictions. During searches in the apartments used by them, SIM boxes, laptops, routers, mobile phones, as well as more than 5,5 thousand SIM cards of various operators were seized.
"The investigator of the Department of Inquiry of the OMVD of Russia for the Krylovsky district of the Krasnodar Territory is investigating a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. In relation to the defendants, a preventive measure was chosen in the form of a subscription not to leave and proper behavior.
All facts of illegal activity and its accomplices are being established," Iryna Volk said.
