Operatives of the Novgorod-Seversky district department, together with SBU officers under the procedural guidance of the Novgorod-Seversky district Prosecutor's Office, exposed a local resident who created fake pages in one of the social networks - on behalf of a woman, he collected money for the treatment of a child, and on behalf of a serviceman - funds for ammunition and a car. Law enforcement officers identified ten people affected by the actions of the defendant: they transferred more than 1.5 million hryvnias to the attacker.

Recently, the police began receiving complaints that the social network user "Snezhana" in connection with the difficult financial situation asks for money for the treatment of his young daughter. Citizens drew attention to the fact that documents that allegedly confirm the child's illness may not be real.

The police immediately started checking on this fact and established that the owner of the fake profile is a 26-year-old resident of one of the villages of Novgorod-Seversky district. The man created an account under a woman's name and made up a story about a sick child.

In addition, police officers found out that the person involved created another account where, on behalf of "serviceman Vitaly", he collected money for military ammunition, equipment and a car for his fellow soldiers. Vitaliy did not publish any reports on the funds spent as intended.

Investigators informed the defendant of suspicion on 14 facts of committing crimes under parts 3, 4 and 5 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud committed through illegal operations using electronic computing equipment, as well as fraud committed on an especially large scale), which is punishable by imprisonment for a term of five to twelve years.

The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the suspect.

The pre-trial investigation continues.
