Our goal is to make AI accessible to everyone, not teach children programming.
At the World Government Summit, Jensen Huang, head of NVIDIA, shared his thoughts on the future of artificial intelligence and programming.
Answering the question of what should be the focus of learning efforts and what skills should be passed on to children, the head of NVIDIA noted that for 10-15 years, almost every speaker at the technology forum insisted that it was "vital" for young people to study computer science and programming. "In fact, everything is exactly the opposite," Huang believes, since in the future, for software development, it will be enough to clearly formulate the technical task in natural language, and artificial intelligence will do all the work for the programmer.
"Our job is to create such computing technologies so that no one has to program, and that the programming language becomes human," he told the summit participants. "Now everyone in the world is a programmer. This is a real miracle, a miracle of artificial intelligence."
It makes sense for young people to spend their time acquiring more valuable skills in biotechnology, education, manufacturing, and agriculture.
However, industry expert Patrick Moorhead disagrees with this radical view. He recalled that over the past 30 years, many technologies that facilitate the work of programmers were constantly considered by the community as a replacement for these specialists, but in reality, the need for software developers in the labor market is only growing. At least after entering the ChatGPT market, there were 6% more vacancies in the programming field.
