The leak of 2.5 million records casts a shadow on the reputation of the international airport.

A well-known hacker under the pseudonym IntelBroker, responsible for hacking General Electric, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and DC Health Link , claims that this time he managed to break into the database of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), stealing confidential data of private jet owners.

According to the hacker, the hack was carried out this month and did not affect the data of ordinary passengers. However, about 2.5 million records were compromised in the incident, including full names, CPA numbers, email addresses, company names, aircraft model numbers, and aircraft tail identification numbers.

Information about the hack was published by the IntelBroker hacker himself on the cybercrime forum BreachForums, revived by the ShinyHunters group after its liquidation in March last year.

IntelBroker's BreachForums post from February 23rd

IntelBroker said that the database was obtained by exploiting a vulnerability in the CRM system used by the airport. It should also be noted that in the published post, the hack is attributed to a hacker under the pseudonym "kwillsy", although later IntelBroker stated that the latter has nothing to do with this incident, and IntelBroker and his team assume all responsibility personally.

This incident is among the many data breaches that have occurred since the beginning of 2024, affecting both the corporate and public sectors. All these compromises only highlight the vulnerability of organizations to cyber threats, because even highly secure systems such as airport databases can be successfully hacked by experienced hackers.

This is a serious signal for all companies and government agencies. It is necessary to pay high priority to cybersecurity, conduct regular system audits, and install vulnerability fixes in a timely manner. Otherwise, the confidential data of companies and ordinary citizens will always be at risk.
