Experts are investigating how video streams may have been mixed up due to a single caching error.

On Friday, the owners of the Wyze security cameras experienced an unexpected glitch. Their devices began to record an extraneous video stream, that is, an image from other cameras was broadcast to the screen. According to technical support, this was due to a problem with web caching.

Reddit users are actively discussing the situation. One of them writes: "I went to check my cameras, and someone replaced them all with a new one... and it's not mine! Sorry if this is your house or your dog... I don't like it either, and neither do you."

Some entries, judging by the comments, were available to several people at once.

There, on Reddit, representatives reported that the page for viewing video streams on view.wyze.com it is under maintenance. The management team will share more information as soon as the issue is resolved.

According to Dave Crosby, one of the representatives, the anomaly affected only a small number of customers and lasted about 30 minutes. There were no crashes in the mobile app: only those who logged in to the Wyze system via a web browser encountered the problem. Crosby also clarified that, according to preliminary estimates, the error affected only 10 people. However, it is unclear whether we are talking about 10 users who saw other people's cameras or whose cameras were visible to others.

As stated in the official report, the incident does not meet the level of security that the manufacturer strives for.: "We and our team are already working to improve security and investigate the root cause of the crash."

Once Wyze has already demonstrated not the most responsible approach to security issues. In March 2022, the company announced that it had known about vulnerabilities in WyzeCam v1 cameras for three years, but did not inform customers about it, simply stopping the release of the model.
