A resident of Corona, California, who hired a local postman to steal mail for her with cards inside, received two years in prison and will be forced to pay restitution in the amount of 253 thousand dollars. According to the portal MyNewsLA, all the plastic relied on low-income Americans left without a livelihood due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Michalea Barksdale, 34, pleaded guilty to bank fraud and possession of 15 or more unauthorized access devices. Her accomplice from January 2019 to May 2020 was the local postman Toya Hunter. She exchanged stolen credit and debit cards with Barksdale for money and valuable gifts. In April 2023, she was sentenced to 15 months in prison and ordered to pay $206,000 in damages.

Barksdale used the last four digits of the victims' social security numbers to activate debit cards and create personal identification numbers to access funds held at Bank of America. After that, she withdrew funds from ATMs in her hometown. In total, the two women managed to steal $145,000 from the accounts of 68 people.
