"Fix Tuesday" is followed by "rollback Wednesday". Well, how much can you do, Microsoft?

Windows users encountered an unexpected problem when installing the February 13 security update . Microsoft has confirmed that there are difficulties that can interrupt the installation process at around 96%. In such cases, a failed attempt message appears on the screen indicating that the changes made are automatically rolled back.

Users started complaining about difficulties immediately after the KB5034765 patch was released. But only recently did Microsoft officially acknowledge the problem on its Windows Release Health portal, designed to track the status of operating system releases.

The problem affected both supported versions of the operating system — Windows 11 (23H2) and Windows 10 (22H2). What exactly is the cause of the problem, the company did not say. As a temporary solution, Microsoft suggested deleting the hidden folder "<url>", which should help you successfully complete the update installation.

The company also said that it is working on developing a permanent solution that will avoid similar problems in the future, without having to manually delete system folders.

Recently, Windows users regularly encounter similar problems related to system updates. In particular, in January of this year, there was a need for manual intervention for a successful Windows 10 update related to errors in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

Returning to the latest security update, it is worth noting that KB5034765 is very important for protecting the system and it is still worth installing it, even if you have to resort to additional manual actions.

In addition to improvements for Copilot, KB5034765 introduces fixes for a number of vulnerabilities, including CVE-2024-21412, which allows attackers to initiate an attack on vulnerable computers using a malicious shortcut file, without having to pass security checks.

Despite the fact that such failures still occur periodically, Microsoft continues to work on fixing such problems, trying to ensure the smooth and safe operation of its operating systems. Regular updates to the operating system and programs used are one of the key elements of digital security these days, and they should not be ignored.
