39,000 fraudulent websites used Ozon to cheat.
In the first half of 2024, the Ozon marketplace and F. A. C. C. T. blocked 9,341 fraudulent resources and 3,621 phishing sites that used the Ozon brand to deceive users. The main types of fraud included fake sweepstakes, fake authorization pages, purchase and return of goods. This year, scammers actively used ads in instant messengers and social networks to promote their resources.
In 2023, Ozon and F. A. C. C. T. blocked over 39,000 fraudulent websites using the Ozon brand. The greatest activity of the scam was observed in the second half of the year, which was associated with an increase in the number of fraudulent "affiliate programs" that allowed attackers to scale their operations, increase profits and attract more victims. In the first half of 2024, 9,341 fraudulent websites were blocked, which is almost 19 times higher than in the same period of the previous year.
An example of one of the fraudulent schemes involved the distribution of prizes through the Wheel of Fortune. Users were asked to spin the wheel, and a cash prize was awarded on the third attempt. To get it, you had to pay a "commission" for the details of the attackers, which led to the loss of money.
Phishing is also a serious threat, although its popularity is inferior to scam attacks. In 2023, almost 16,000 phishing sites posing as authorization, purchase or refund pages were blocked. In the first half of 2024, 3,621 phishing sites were blocked.
One example of a phishing site included a site selling products. Fraudsters contacted customers under the guise of providing discounts or solving problems with the order, generated phishing links using Telegram bots and asked them to enter their bank card details for payment. After payment, there was a risk of debiting all funds from the card.
According to F. A. C. C. T. analysts, in the first half of 2024, the number of groups and accounts in instant messengers and social networks that attract an audience to fraudulent sites increased dramatically. 1,632 posts and groups were blocked, which is almost 7 times more than in the whole of 2023.
