Users can exchange SMS messages without even knowing each other's phone numbers.

WhatsApp has introduced a new update as part of the TestFlight beta testing program, updating the messenger version to 24.2.10.72, which is available in the TestFlight app. This became known to the WABetaInfo portal.

The main focus of the new update is the development of a cross-platform messaging feature that aims to meet the new EU requirements. The new feature will be available in future updates on iOS.

Previous updates to WhatsApp for Android were also aimed at supporting chats from third-party apps, as part of compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DMA regulates the activities of large technology companies, requiring them to ensure that users can communicate through various applications.

Under the new DMA rules, WhatsApp, which has a dominant position in the messenger market, will have to implement strict rules that allow users to communicate through various platforms. In particular, we are developing a new section in the app that will contain all incoming messages from third-party chats.

One of the key advantages of DMA is the introduction of cross-platform compatibility, which allows people to communicate with other users on WhatsApp through various messengers. For example, a Signal user will be able to send messages to a WhatsApp user without even having a WhatsApp account.

The innovation promotes wider and more diverse communication. According to the DMA, users will have to manually activate the option and be able to opt out of it. In addition, end-to-end encryption must be maintained to ensure security in cross-platform communication.
