The main reason why an ATM of bank (and any other bank) can eat a card is forgetfulness and inattention - it was simply not taken away on time. After completing an operation at an ATM, a card is issued first, then money if you withdraw cash, and last but not least, a check.

To pick up the card, you have 45 seconds, while the time is counting down on the ATM screen. Didn't have time to pick it up, the bank ATM will take the card back. This setting is set for your safety, in order to prevent the card from falling into the hands of fraudsters - in case you forgot and left, leaving your "piece of plastic". By the way, if within a certain period of time you have not taken the money, the "banking machine" will safely take it back for the same reason.

A little advice along the way: do not immediately count the money, it is better to do it in a safe place. If the ATM is mistaken, you won't argue with it - just submit an application to the bank. His staff will investigate and give you your money.

The main causes of potato eating

Let's take a look at the main reasons why the ATM chewed on the bank card:
  • you forgot your card at a bank ATM or did not have time to pick it up on time;
  • you are using an expired card;
  • mechanical damage occurs on the surface of the plastic;
  • withdrawal is possible after three incorrect attempts to enter the PIN-code;
  • if in the bank's systems this card is blocked due to theft or loss;
  • technical malfunctions of the ATM, power outages are possible.
In almost each of the above cases (except for the last one), the ATM will issue a check indicating the reason for which the card was withdrawn.

Withdrawal reason codes can be as follows:
  • 04 - the card was withdrawn without specifying the reason;
  • 41 - the card is lost;
  • 43 - the bank has information about the theft of the card.
Be sure to keep the issued receipt. He will help you understand the reasons for contacting the bank.

So what if the ATM took the card?
First of all, it is worth canceling the last transaction by pressing the "Cancel" key. The card can be returned within a few minutes. In the event of a technical failure, the ATM can return the card after a few minutes (you should definitely wait 5 minutes).

If the "cash dispenser" is stuck tightly and does not respond to keystrokes, no need to fuss. Take a look around, if you are in the bank premises during the day, you should report your problem to any of its employees. The author of the article himself recently got into a similar story at bank, and an employee who approached opened the front cover of the ATM, took out a card from its bowels and asked for a passport. After checking the name in the passport and on the card, the latter was given to its owner!

If your attempt to figure it out with little bloodshed was not successful, you need to call the phone number, which is usually indicated on the ATM. The bank employee needs to explain the current situation and clarify where and when it will be possible to pick up the card, and what documents will need to be provided for this. In addition, you can always call the bank hotline number. After verification, you will be shown the reason for the confiscation and given further instructions. You can also contact any branch of the bank with this question.

You need to call the bank customer support service in any case to temporarily block the card (or do it in any available way - the main thing is as soon as possible). If you managed to return your card back, you need to contact Sberbank with a statement to unblock the card. If you need a card as soon as possible, contact bank with an application to reissue the card due to loss. A standard re-release takes up to 2 weeks.

A few words about what to do if a "foreign" ATM has eaten a card. Basically, the story is the same. Blocking is mandatory, then a call to the bank that owns the ATM. There they will tell you: when and where to go, just do not forget the documents: passport and letter from your bank - you also need to prove that you are the true owner of the card (check the letter form at the branch at the place of account management). If the process of obtaining a card is delayed, it is better to reissue it - less hassle. And do not worry about the safety of funds, the account will not change when reissued (only the card number and PIN code will change).

And finally, advice - write down the bank's contact numbers in your cell phone, they may suddenly be needed, and, fortunately, will be at hand.
