Hello, running in the shadows! Hello, random subscriber. Today we will talk about such a difficult thing as biometric data. We will answer your questions as briefly and informatively as possible: what, why, and why do you need it? And most importantly, what it threatens us personally.
Go:
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about biometric data. What is it all about?
Biometric data are unique biological and physiological characteristics that allow you to establish a person's identity. There are five most common types of biometrics: a fingerprint, a face image, a voice, the iris of the eye, and a drawing of the veins of the palm and finger.
And who collects them and why?
As a rule, biometrics are used for digital identification of citizens. For example, banks need your biometric data to provide various services remotely. Let's say you want to open an account or take out a loan. Previously, you had to go to the bank to do this, but now much of the above can be done via the Internet. And this data is also needed by military commissars and good uncles cops in order to better take normal guys by the ass.
And that's it? How else can this help me?
This can help, for example, when you are planning to fly abroad. In some countries, you don't have to spend time waiting in lines for passport control - just go to a special sensor, attach your passport, scan your retina and go out into the city freely. Biometrics is already helping us in stores, but so far it's using your phone — you can pay for purchases just by putting your finger on your gadget. Using biometric data will also make it easier and more convenient to get other services.
Clear. How do I start using it? (question from morons)
You need to register in the Unified Biometric System. To do this, you first need to become a customer of the bank, for example, come and open an account. A bank employee will help you create an account on Gosuslugi (if you don't have one), collect your biometric data — your photo and voice recording, and then send them to the Unified Biometric System. After that, you will be able to remotely receive bank services that are provided by remote identification. You will need to enter your username and password from Gosuslug, and then say the control phrase while looking at the camera of your smartphone or computer. The system will recognize you — and you will be able to access the services.
Today, registration in the Unified Biometric System can be completed in nine Russian banks.
And how reliable is it?
Biometrics is a unique "key" that cannot be lost and is almost impossible to fake. In addition, the system provides additional protection mechanisms against fraudsters (well, well). It works like this: the user sends a video for remote identification, algorithms process the face image and voice separately, and determine the percentage of similarity with the biometric control template. If the algorithm does not recognize the citizen, the so-called "anomaly module" is included in the work, which analyzes the reasons for the discrepancy and sends a notification to the bank in case of a threat of fraud. This approach allows you to block scammers within a few seconds.
And what, the system doesn't crash at all? And if, for example, it will be used by twins? (question from the same morons)
The recognition accuracy of biometric algorithms is much higher than that of humans. For example, if one twin comes to the bank and tries to open an account in the name of another, it is quite possible that he will succeed and the operator will not notice the trick. With a biometric system, this will not work: first, two-factor identification is used — algorithms recognize people not only by face, but also by voice (and even for twins they are different), and secondly, to identify in the system, you need to know the username and password from Gosuslug - this guarantees additional data protection (not particularly reliable).
What happens if my voice changes or my face changes as a result of an injury? (very correct question)
If you grow a beard, wear glasses, or wear bright makeup, the system will still be able to recognize you. However, the identification process can be affected by serious changes in voice (for example, severe hoarseness) or appearance. In this case, you will have to go to the bank to take a picture and record your voice. In general, biometric data should be updated once every three years.
Okay And what is the situation with this in the world practice and in Russia?
The world's largest biometric database exists in India. More than 80% of the country's population is registered in the Aadhaar system, and biometrics are used in various fields: finance, tourism, education and public services.
In Russia, biometric technologies are only developing: so far, only nine banks have launched the biometric identification procedure. Over time, the Unified biometric system will be used in medicine, education, retail and other industries.
Conclusions:
Running in the shadows, you should not enter yourself in the register of biometric data even under the threat of execution. The only exception is that you go abroad permanently. Because in all other cases-this is a complete zashkvar. Especially considering how the punitive machine of such a wonderful, most independent and freedom-loving country like the Russian Federation works, where people are never, ever, ever jailed for likes and reposts, and officials and deputies are the most honest and decent people in the whole world. Just like the good uncles cops.
Shadow's advice: "Guys, don't be fuckers."
