Vologda hacker to stand trial for de-energizing 38 localities

A Vologda hacker who deliberately de-energized 38 villages in the region a year ago will appear in court in a criminal case, the penalty for which provides for up to eight years in a penal colony, the press service of the Russian FSB department for the Vologda region told TASS.

"The investigation of a criminal case against a hacker who disconnected 38 settlements of the Vologda Region from electricity has been completed. The Federal Security Service of Russia for the Vologda Region found that in February 2023, a resident of the region born in 1975 obtained unauthorized access to power grid technological management systems and disconnected 38 settlements of the Vologda Region from power supply in the Sheksninsky district, Ustyuzhensky and Babaevsky districts, " the report says.

A criminal case was opened under Part 4 of Article 274.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. His investigation was completed, and the case was sent to the court for consideration on its merits. The person involved is on his own recognizance, the FSB clarified to TASS.
