Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Volgograd Region, together with colleagues from the Perm Territory, detained a suspect in fraud.

“It was previously established that the attacker was a participant in a criminal scheme organized and supervised from the territory of Ukraine by his accomplices. The attackers created an online store that offered to buy car engines at low prices. After the clients made an advance payment, they did not fulfill their obligations, and appropriated the transferred money. The duties of a resident of the Perm Territory included receiving funds from buyers through bank cards issued to third parties. Then he converted rubles into cryptocurrency and sent the stolen goods to Ukrainian curators,” said Irina Volk, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Among the victims of fraud were two residents of the Volgograd region. For the purchase of automobile engines, they transferred about three hundred thousand rubles. In total, according to investigators, the swindlers managed to deceive dozens of residents of different regions of Russia.

“The operatives located and detained the suspect on the territory of the Perm Territory. A search was conducted at his place of residence, during which dozens of bank cards, mobile phones and other items of probative value were seized.

An investigator of the Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Volgograd Region initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. In relation to the defendant, a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen. Currently, operational-search activities and investigative actions are being carried out to identify all the episodes and accomplices of illegal activities,” Irina Volk said.
