The thought of losing a cryptocurrency wallet filled with bitcoin, ethereum, or the latest meme coins can cause nightmares for any investor. However, the companies VivoKey and Dangerous Things offer a new way to always have your coins with you— the Apex cryptocurrency wallet, which can be implanted in the human body. The device is controlled via a special mobile app, and all transactions are processed directly in the chip embedded under the skin.
Amal Graafstra, founder and CEO of VivoKey Technologies and Dangerous Things, explained that Apex is designed to perform cryptocurrency transactions. Private keys and signatures for transactions are generated inside the chip, while the mobile app serves as an interface and does not store private keys on the smartphone.
The device supports several cryptocurrency wallets, such as Satochip, the Seedkeeper app, and the Status IM memory card wallet. According to VivoKey, Satochip is a BIP32 / 39 wallet applet that allows you to safely store cryptocurrency, make transactions, and support several types of currencies. The cost of Apex is $349.
Graafstra, a biohacking enthusiast, received his first RFID implant in 2005, inspired by the idea of using RFID chips for pets. He shared that the initial motivation for installing the implant was simplicity and convenience — the ability to enter and leave the house without a key and the need to carry anything with you.
The Apex implant procedure, he says, involves inserting a needle under the skin, removing it, and then placing the chip in the incision using sterile gloves. The developers are confident that this technology will help users cope with the problem of losing wallets and will be useful in various scenarios where confirmation of the owner's identity is required, such as airdrops or transaction analysis.
