Vivation (from Latin vivation, vivo - to live, vividus - full of life, revealing life, alive, strong, fiery) is a method founded by Jim Lenard. In 1979, he and Phil Louth introduced the concept of integration and founded the integrative rebirthing movement. Since 1987 the trade mark "vivation" has been registered. In L. Orr's rebirthing, the concept of "release" existed, and the release of suppressed material was considered the goal and sufficient condition for the effectiveness of the coherent breathing process. According to the creators of vivation, it is necessary not only to release ("release the tiger from the cage"), but also certain methods of working with the experiences that come during the breathing session. Therefore,

Integration (from Lat. Integer - whole) is a concept introduced into rebirthing by J. Lenard to explain the purpose and content of the process of coherent breathing. Integration is the merging of a part with a whole. In this case, a part is a certain suppressed structure, repressed to the level of the unconscious (conflict, stress, negative idea, taboo desire, etc.). In the process of coherent breathing, there is an awareness and acceptance of this suppressed structure, the attachment of its energy to the perceiving, conscious personality. Integration is a process of moving towards the integrity of human consciousness. According to Jim Lehnard, this should lead to an ecstatic perception of the world. And the very process of integration is ecstatic. Integration is the ability for a holistic, ecstatic perception of the world here and now,

In vivation, special attention is paid to breathing technique (breathing classes).
  • Breathing classes are conventionally distinguished types of connected breathing, each of which has a certain internal structure and function in the process of breathing. There are basic requirements for breathing that are practiced in vivation: cyclicity, coherence. Between inhalation and exhalation, between exhalation and inhalation, there is no pause, no break. Inhalation gradually flows into exhalation. The exhalation gradually flows into the inhalation. This is breathing in a circle. The exhalation is relaxed, free, not tense and not controlled.
  • If inhalation is made through the nose (mouth), then exhalation is also made through the nose (mouth).
In vivation, depending on the rate and volume of breathing, 3 classes of breathing are distinguished:
  • Deep and slow.
This type is best used when entering the process, as well as after, having integrated one block, you are preparing for a new integration cycle.
  • Fast and superficial.
This type should be used when the process is fast and deep. Shallow breathing makes it possible to stay in the process, and the pace speeds up integration.
  • Fast and deep.

This type is designed to keep consciousness in the body while accelerating the process. A large volume of air helps you stay within the body, and the pace accelerates the integration process (J. Lenard, Phil Louth).
The conceptual model of vivation is based on the ecstatic perception of the world, which leads a person to experience reality as an "ocean of bliss".
The vivation has developed a system for passing the client through various stages:
"dry" vivation (at least 10 processes);
"water" vivation (at least 10 processes);
"outpatient" vivation (consolidation of the skill of integration in everyday life - eating food, driving a car, etc.).

Viving is a humble and quiet breathing technique. There is no loud music and no mind-blowing travel in it. She has a tender attitude to everyday reality, softness and attention to the sensations of the body here and now. For the whole world is reflected in sensations, letting us know about ourselves. Therefore, the purpose of vivation is not to change reality, and not to discover a new one, and not even to remember the turning points of the biography, but to friendly and partner relations with this reality. Feel life in yourself, and yourself alive right here, and with those feelings and sensations that are right now (A. Zenger, 1994). Celebrate a life that has been going on for a long time. D. Lenard transformed rebirthing with 5 elements.

Five elements put forward in integrative rebirthing in the late 70s (J. Lenard, Phil Louth) are integral elements of the process of connected breathing:
  • cyclic breathing; complete relaxation;
  • detailed awareness;
  • integration into ecstasy;
  • do what you do, desire is enough.
For contact with your body, vivation uses Circular Breathing - the 1st element of vivation.

Tension hides, like the thickness of water, repressed emotions and feelings. Retreating at low tide, the water reveals the bottom of the ocean and what is left on it. Also, complete relaxation (Complete Relaxation) - the II element of vivation, allows you to discover patterns of suppression in the form of emotions and sensations. Detailed awareness (Awareness in Detail) - III element of vivation. It is rather a moral category related to the realm of deep democracy. Should you notice small voices? Is it worth paying close attention to the subtle, barely noticeable? At least, for this we need to recognize their right to exist inside us and stop pressing and overcome sensory sensations.

Integration into Ecstasy - IY element of vivation. Corresponds well with the righteous memory in the eightfold noble path of Buddhism. Being absorbed, overshadowed by any feeling, experience, you can expand your awareness beyond it, without ceasing to experience it. Thus, the background on which this experience unfolds, that is, the space in which all this takes place, falls into the field of awareness. Other figures, other feelings and sensations can enter this expanded field of awareness. Figuratively speaking, integration into ecstasy is the ability to see the forest behind the trees, or the ability, after incarnating into a fish, not to forget about the water in which you swim and about other fish nearby.

Do What You Do. Desire Enough. (Do Whatever You Do. Willingness is Enough). You don't have to be perfect to do it perfectly (130, pp. 43–75).

Thus, instead of a mindset for strengthening, vivation uses a mindset to expand awareness, and instead of mind-blowing journeys in an altered state of consciousness, it is proposed to establish contact with the sensations of the body here and now.

Vivation is the ability to be perfect right now.

You are always free and always have the right to choose. Mindfulness in making decisions - whether to satisfy one's desires or not is necessary for Vaiveshin. The five elements help you integrate your habits, that is, build them into your life, look at them from the outside and disidentify with them. The five elements allow you to relax - you don't have to follow your inner voices and you don't have to suppress them.

Life is made for ecstasy. Nirvana and sanshara are one and the same. You are free, and you can choose sadness, fear, unhappiness, grief and depression ... But you can also right now choose fun, joy, happiness and delight in the sweetness of life.

Life, your body, your breath, what you see, hear, smell, feel right now is a full and harmonious ocean of bliss.

You can shut yourself off from this ocean and paint the world in black and white or even black, and you can sail on the ocean of bliss in the shell of your limitations and mutter inside: "Poor me, unfortunate, no one loves me, fate sends me suffering, black fate prevails over all people, I have such a karma, such is life and I have to drag out that vale ... "

This applies to the shell.

And meanwhile life boils, plays, splashes with paints and whispers: "Open up, accept, relax, get drunk with my juices ..."

Vivation is when your ears are open to the voice of life.

Here is the endless ocean of life - the ocean of bliss. Right now, you can put your lips to his waters.

You can - this is vivation.

Vivation can be summarized in several sentences.
  • Find the strongest sensation in your body and breathe through it.
  • Notice the most subtle changes.
  • Integrate into ecstasy.
The use of these proposals in teaching the basics of viving as a technique of internal and external work is possible in two versions: pair and group.

Pair option

In the first option, the group is divided into pairs and sits opposite each other on chairs or on the floor and begins to breathe coherently.

After a few minutes, one of the partners closes his eyes, the other begins to perform the functions of a vibration instructor, the main one of which is to speak the above sentences to the client (partner with closed eyes) several times over the course of five minutes. In this case, the order of pronunciation of sentences is unimportant. Five minutes later, a gong sounds and they change roles: the partner who was the client becomes the instructor and vice versa.

The exercise continues for 30 minutes. During the exercise in pairs, coherent breathing is maintained, while the instructor "mirrors" the client's breath, but at the same time breathes more shallowly.

After the exercise, a conversation is made. The moderator sums up the results of the process.

Group option

The group is divided into two equal subgroups and form two circles: inner and outer, the participants of which sit opposite each other.

This exercise is aimed at acquiring breathing tracking skills and using verbal forms of communication with the client in the PCC.

The exercise uses coherent breathing, and it should have such an intensity that it is in the PCC and at the same time does not go into a deep inner process.

Further, the exercise is carried out similarly to the paired version for 10 minutes (5 min x 5 min). Then the outer circle moves clockwise to one partner and again the exercise is carried out in the same way as in the pair version. The exercise is carried out until all the participants in the outer circle work in pairs with the participants in the inner circle.

This exercise not only expands the area of professional skills of instructors, but also allows you to integrate internal communication problems with clients of different genders and different ages. This exercise can be used in any training with a group form of work. It rather strongly influences the socio-psychological processes within the group and positively affects the group dynamics.
