Yea tops is a grocery store that has self checkout so you think i can use the vanilla gift card and go there and use the self checkout since im doing it by myself?

Just wait and get your embossed plastics. Sure you could get away with non matching plastic but save yourself some embarrassment and possibly getting caught up and wait for the matching plastics.
I started with the non matching plastics when I first started a while back, I remember one time the clerk looked at the receipt and noticed the last four didnt match to the card and she just thought something was wrong but to my dismay she just cancelled the transaction and I said its a temporary card and maybe the bank made a mistake. It worked but I wont ever do it again.

Yes you can go to Tops and buy what ever there on a gift card. You can go to a lot of places and buy stuff with gift cards. Walmart, fred meyer and so on. If you are going to card a place that does not ask for last 4 then most of the time it is not even needed. It is much safer to plastic but if your funds are low because you are just starting out then going into a Tops and grabbing a stack of gift cards encoding them and going shopping for small stuff is fine. Most of the people working there have no clue what carding is and just want to ID to match the card. When you say oh it's just a gift card they say ok. Or you could swipe the gift card then show them a different card that you have ID for.
