TEXAS, United States, in October. 22, 2012. - Mexico and the United States have the highest rates of credit card fraud in the world, reported a study by research firm Aite Group and electronic payment services in 17 countries ACI Worldwide.

Reveals that around one in four people (27 percent) using a credit card, have experienced some type of fraud in the use of this payment system over the past five years.

In the case of Mexico, the rate was 44 percent and U.S. 42 percent, to occupy the first place in a list of the 17 most representative countries in the use of credit cards in the world.

Researchers surveyed more than five thousand cardholders, while residents of the Netherlands and Sweden reported the lowest rates of fraud, with 12 percent in each of these countries.

"The results of this survey show that card fraud remains one of the greatest threats and concerns of consumers, financial institutions and retailers," said Mike Braatz, vice president of Fraud Payments, ACI Worldwide.

"While there are significant advances in fraud prevention technology, it is clear that much remains to be done to educate consumers about fraud and engage them as allies when it occurs," the manager said in a statement.

The study reports that in Mexico penetration credit card usage is very high, to find that only 1 percent of respondents did not have a credit card or debit card.

He also revealed that in the universe of 44 percent of Mexican cardholders who reported being victims of fraud, 71 percent of them changed their payment behavior "in some form" after that experience.

For 25 percent of them, the use of the credit card was normalized to the same levels as they were before the fraud in just one month after the experience.

Another 20 percent still use your card for less than six months after being the victim of fraud, which "represents a significant decline in revenues for the issuers of payment systems."
