Police officers of the Republic of Belarus have detained two citizens of the country who have been engaged in the exchange of cryptocurrencies for more than two years. The volume of transactions exceeded 2 million Belarusian rubles ($630,000), law enforcement officials assure.
The exchange was carried out by a resident of Minsk and a resident of the Brest region. Administrative protocols have been drawn up against them, and now the men face heavy fines for illegal business activities. In addition, the state may require the return of all funds spent through the card changers. Part of the funds went to the cards of "illegal entrepreneurs" from "organized criminal groups from abroad," officials insist.
“It was established that a 22-year-old resident of the Brest region and a 37-year-old Minsk resident exchanged money stolen from citizens for cryptocurrency for two years. For two years, the defendants spent more than 2 million rubles through their bank cards, receiving interest from illegal transactions,” says Dmitry Khodas, acting head of department “K” of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Mogilev Region.
