Local regulators are throwing down the gauntlet to the international IT giant.

The Turkish antitrust Authority has imposed temporary restrictions on Meta regarding the exchange of data between the Instagram * and Threads platforms. This decision was made as part of an investigation into possible abuse of the company's dominant position in the market.

In December, the authority began investigating Meta's actions over potential competition law violations through linking its social media platforms Instagram and Threads. The measure will remain in effect until a final decision is made due to concerns that merging data from these two platforms could violate antitrust laws and cause irreparable damage to the market.

Earlier, Turkish authorities fined Meta 4.8 million liras ($148,000) in a separate investigation for each day when the company sent a notification to users of its services requesting consent to data exchange between the platforms.

It is claimed that this notification did not contain enough information and was not sufficiently transparent, and was also aimed at encouraging users to agree to the exchange of data, which also raises concerns from the point of view of antitrust legislation.

A Meta representative said that the company is reviewing the decision and will comment on it in more detail in the near future.
