The investigation into the attempted murder of the former US president continues.

The FBI announced on Monday that it had obtained access to the phone of Thomas Matthew Crookes, a suspect in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. As part of the ongoing investigation, the agency is trying to find out the motives of the crime.

Earlier on July 14, The New York Times reported that agents in Pennsylvania, where the incident occurred, were unable to circumvent Crookes ' mobile phone password. The device was sent to the FBI laboratory in Quantico, where work continued.

The investigation into Saturday's shooting, which is classified as an attempted murder and a potential act of domestic terrorism, is at an early stage. Technical specialists managed to gain access to Crookes phone and continue to analyze his electronic devices. Searches of his home and vehicle have also been completed.

The FBI reported conducting nearly 100 interviews with law enforcement officials, event participants, and witnesses. During a press conference on Sunday, representatives of the bureau noted that so far it has not been possible to determine ideological motives or find evidence explaining the shooter's act.

It is reported that the used AR-556 rifle was legally purchased by the suspect's father. Officials noted that no signs of mental disorders were found in Crookes. Preliminary analysis of his recent calls and text messages did not answer questions about his motives, nor did it reveal whether the perpetrator acted alone or whether someone might have known about his plans in advance.

Recall that at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, one of the bullets grazed the right ear of Trump. As a result of the shooting, one of the supporters of the former president was killed, and two others were injured.
