The US Securities and Exchange Commission has asked a Massachusetts federal court to issue a default judgment against four Russians accused of involvement in a scheme to trade company securities based on illegally obtained insider information.
The list includes Nikolai Rumyantsev, Mikhail Irzak, Igor Sladkov and Ivan Ermakov.
“The defendants were duly notified, but they did not react in any way, did not state themselves, did not come forward in any way in their defense. The court clerk recorded their failure to appear in accordance with Article 55(a) of the Federal Code of Civil Procedure, says the petition, which was reviewed by RAPSI. – The SEC now respectfully requests that the court enter a default judgment ordering the defendants to refrain from future violations of the federal securities laws, to repay their ill-gotten gains with pre-judgment interest, and to pay civil monetary penalties. in an amount three times the amount received as a result of illegal actions.”
In September, Klyushin was sentenced to 9 years in prison, while prosecutors had sought 14 years, with damages of about $2.4 million. An appeal has been filed against the verdict, which has not yet been considered.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called the Klyushin case politicized, and the arguments of the American side “raising doubts.”
