The new strategy is aimed at manipulating public opinion.

The Pentagon has published a new strategy emphasizing the need to create special "information forces" to protect against attempts to influence public opinion. This was in response to the growing spread of false information and China's attempts to influence international affairs.

According to the "Strategy for Operations in the information environment for 2023", the US Department of Defense should develop a process for rapid deployment of information force teams, including reserve groups. It is planned to attract military and civilian experts, improve recruitment, training and career development.

This document, which is binding on Congress, was published on November 17, several months after it was distributed internally. Information warfare involves both public work and offline and cyber operations, combining data awareness and manipulation to achieve an advantage.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin noted in the preface to the strategy: "There is no doubt that our competitors and enemies are actively operating in the information environment, trying to offset our strategic advantages."

Artificial intelligence, which can mimic human interaction, can be used to send spam, phishing, and disguise messages, while automation promotes the dissemination of misleading messages on social networks. U.S. officials have repeatedly warned of these threats, examples of which were seen during Israel's war in Gaza.

Air Force Lieutenant General Kevin Kennedy, commander of the information warfare-focused 16th Air Force, said at an event this month that information warfare plays a key role in international rivalry and shapes subsequent military actions.
