According to Grodno Plus, a 62-year-old Belarusian pensioner has become a victim of fraud. All because the man wanted to buy a virtual currency for Hamster Kombat for real money. He decided to do this through a chat bot in Telegram.
The man wanted to buy 300 tokens. In the chatbot, he was told that he would not be able to buy less than 500 special coins. The pensioner agreed to this offer and transferred 1,605 Belarusian rubles to the specified account.
After this transaction, the chatbot reported that the minimum purchase threshold increased from 500 to 800 tokens. The man was not satisfied with such changes in the transaction, and he demanded to return the transferred money back. But the owner of the chatbot stopped responding to him, and later completely deleted the conversation in the chat.
The police department of the Grodno regional Executive Committee notes that this is not the first case of fraud against the background of the popularity of Hamster Kombat. A similar story happened to a 26-year-old Hrodna woman who came across an ad that mentioned Hamster Kombat. In it, the girl was promised a prize of 200,000 Russian rubles, but to receive it, she had to pay a commission of 100 Belarusian rubles. But after the transaction, the girl did not see any winnings or a refund of the tax paid. As a result, a criminal case was initiated under the article "Fraud".
