The university proposed to create "cyber intelligence schools” for students.

The Russian Technological University (RTU MIREA) has asked the head of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation Maksut Shadaev to include in the national program “Digital Economy” a project to create student cyberintelligence training centers - “Cyberintelligence Schools”. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the university's letter.

According to the rector of RTU MIREA Alexander Fedotov, the initiative is caused by the growth of IT crimes in the country and the need to train highly qualified specialists in the field of cybersecurity. He noted that graduates of the "Cyber Intelligence Schools" will have the opportunity to apply for guaranteed employment in the largest corporations and state organizations in the country.

"Cyber intelligence is the collection and analysis of data on potential threats from internal and external sources, which allows detecting and preventing an attack. This is a complex and responsible task that requires special knowledge and skills. Our university is ready to act as a pilot platform for the project implementation and share its experience with other universities," Fedotov said.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, from 2014 to 2022, the number of IT crimes in the country increased 50 times - from 10 thousand to 510 thousand. In March of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that crimes in this area accounted for a quarter of all criminal offenses in the country in 2022. This type of crime is particularly risky for backbone companies and digital government services.

As part of the national program "Digital Economy", it is planned to create a National cyber polygon - a specialized platform for conducting exercises to protect against cyber attacks. By 2024, it is planned to open 15 support centers of the cyber polygon in Russia. At the moment, there are seven support centers and one educational center. The exercises held at the training ground are primarily aimed at investigating crimes that have already been committed.
