In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, investigators of the Inter-Municipal Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Zheleznogorsk have completed the investigation of a criminal case on a series of frauds under the pretext of online booking of a guest house in the village of Zhemchuzhny near Lake Shira in the Republic of Khakassia, where thousands of tourists come. A 37-year-old resident of Norilsk, who had no previous convictions, was charged with committing crimes.
It is established that the defendant previously lived in Khakassia and had experience in renting out housing, and then moved to the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, where he had financial difficulties. Then he decided to engage in illegal activities in order to earn extra money.
Having placed on one of the popular sites on the Internet a fictitious announcement about the delivery of a house in a picturesque area of Khakassia, the attacker began to request prepayment from the citizens who responded. Often, the swindler entered into the confidence of customers, assuring them that he would meet them and comfortably deliver them to their place of rest.
This simple scheme involved 25 people, including residents of Krasnoyarsk, Zheleznogorsk, Minusinsk, Abakan, Tomsk and Lesosibirsk. Some of them guessed about the deception even at the stage of collecting things, and some managed to arrive in Khakassia and tried unsuccessfully to call the fraudster at the railway station. The total amount of damage caused to all the victims was more than 130 thousand rubles.
The accused was identified and detained by the Zheleznogorsk police.
Currently, the materials of criminal cases initiated on the grounds of crimes provided for in parts 1 and 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation have been transferred to the court for making a decision on the merits. The defendant is under a recognizance not to leave and proper behavior.
