The Central Bureau of Investigation of the Polish police announced the arrest of 37-year-old Russian citizen Dmitry V., for whom the US Department of Justice has sent an extradition request. As it became known to the Rzeczpospolita publication, this is the former owner of the Wex cryptocurrency exchange Dmitry Vasiliev.
As reported by the security forces, the Russian is suspected of fraud and money laundering, which were precisely related to the management of one of the world's largest crypto platforms. At the same time, Wex itself ceased operations back in 2018. According to the Polish police, Vasiliev faces up to 20 years in prison in the US. However, the exact date of the arrest is not specified.
It is possible that we are talking about the October events, which were officially announced only now. On October 19, the CEO of the Exved exchange and the founder of Garantex, Sergei Mendeleev, reported on his Telegram channel about Vasiliev's arrest in Warsaw.
Vasiliev himself has a rich history of arrests related to questions that various countries have for him. In 2019, this happened in Italy, and two years later - in the same Poland. The reason was suspicions of theft of 450 million dollars from Wex accounts. Later, Kazakhstan, where he has been wanted since 2019, demanded Vasiliev's extradition. And in 2022, the crypto mogul was detained by Croatian security forces.

"The extradition process has been launched. Local lawyers are working with him, his projects are in the safe hands of his closest partners. Unfortunately, his phone has been password-protected and seized," Mendeleev wrote at the time.
