79-year-old Yuri Ivanovich Yarovenko served since the 70s and by the end of the 80s he had risen to the head of the 3rd department of the 3rd Main Directorate of the KGB of the USSR (where they were engaged in internal security and counterintelligence). According to Baza, the scammers contacted the general on August 20. Introducing themselves as colleagues from the FSB and employees of the Pension Fund, the criminals were able to convince Yarovenko that his pension should be recalculated.

Yuri Ivanovich met three times with couriers-collectors, to whom he handed over packages with his savings. In total, the general handed them 60 million rubles. Yarovenko came to the realization only by the beginning of September - he realized that he was dealing with scammers, and went to the police. A case of fraud on an especially large scale has been initiated.
