The criminals presented themselves as employees of Mosenergo, then Roskomnadzor and finally moved on to Rosfinmonitoring. 69-year-old Manerkin explained that his savings are under threat and all the money needs to be transferred to a "safe account".
After the money, the scammers took over the Audi Q7 belonging to the ex-prosecutor. Manerkin was persuaded to sell the car, and the money for the sale was also transferred to the accounts under the "working scheme". In 10 days, the criminals received 20 million rubles from Manerkin.
Interestingly, in 2015, Manerkin advised Russians how not to fall for the tricks of scammers:
