Everyone can contribute, and maybe you have a good idea?

The once-famous hacker collective "Cult of the Dead Cow" is now actively developing a new project Veilid, which we already wrote about earlier . The goal of this project is to provide a foundation for software developers to build applications with an emphasis on security and privacy.

Many modern Internet platforms, such as Facebook, Google and Twitter, are based on advertising models, which limits the possibilities for user privacy. Veilid offers an alternative to these platforms by providing an open source suite of applications that focus on protecting personal information.

Christian "DilDog" Rioux, a Cult member and co-founder of the Veracode security program, said during the launch of Veilid at Def Con: "We exist to develop, distribute and maintain a privacy-focused communication platform with the goal of protecting civil rights."

The development of Veilid began about four years ago, when Riou approached" co-worker "Caitlin" Medusfour " Bowden with a proposal to create a new private social media and messenger service.

Bowden, founder of the BADASS group, emphasized the importance of a lack of commercial focus for ensuring the security of applications created using Veilid. Therefore, the project itself exists within the framework of the non-profit Veilid Foundation. Bowden stressed: "We don't plan to create a corporation or make money. We just want to create something cool."

Veilid aims to provide developers with the tools to create apps where privacy is at the forefront by default. The project's first key app, VeilidChat, is scheduled to be released in the coming months.

The project is based on creating a whole community around the new platform. The developers even launched a Discord server dedicated to the project, where new users come in a stream with ideas and suggestions.

The main focus is on attracting not only tech-savvy professionals, but also ordinary users. Bowden noted: "We want even non-tech savvy people to be able to influence the creation of apps."

Thus, Veilid aims to provide tools for creating a safer and more private Internet, opening up new opportunities for both developers and ordinary users.

Who knows, perhaps the future of a truly confidential Internet is now in the hands of the "Cult of the Dead Cow" and the like-minded community that has formed around ethical hackers.
