A criminal case has been sent to court against a Turkish citizen who, under the pretext of paying with cryptocurrency, took possession of an expensive foreign car, reports the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory.

According to investigators, the defendant wanted to buy an expensive foreign car from the victim for cryptocurrency. The accused helped the seller install a special application on his mobile phone and reported that the bitcoins were transferred to a crypto wallet. The seller entered into a purchase and sale agreement for a foreign car with the defendant’s wife, who was not aware of her husband’s criminal intentions, and transferred the car to the new owner. A Turkish citizen took the car and disappeared into the territory of a neighboring state. When the victim checked the crypto wallet, there were no bitcoins there. The amount of damage amounted to 5 million rubles.

As a result of operational search activities, police officers detained a wanted 38-year-old Turkish citizen at the Russian border. A criminal case has been initiated against the defendant on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).

Currently, the criminal case with an approved indictment has been sent to court. The sanctions of the incriminated part of the article provide for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years.
