A criminal case was sent to the court against a resident of Tomsk and his cohabitant, who organized the operation of a system of fake numbers, the press service of the Prosecutor's office of the Volgograd region reported.
The investigation found that from July 2020 to July 2023, the accused, having knowledge in the field of IP telephony, organized the operation of a system of spoofing mobile phone numbers.
"With the help of special equipment, the accomplices intercepted calls from abroad and visualized the numbers as Russian, later the numbers were used for remote fraud," the press service said.
8 pensioners from the Volgograd, Kaluga, Omsk, Oryol, Novosibirsk and Nizhny Novgorod regions were recognized as victims. The amount of damage exceeded 4 million rubles.
A criminal case was opened against a resident of Tomsk and his cohabitant, depending on the role and degree of participation, under part 3 of Article 30, parts 3 and 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted fraud), as well as under parts 2 and 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
The criminal case was sent to the Voroshilovsky District Court of Volgograd for consideration on the merits.
