A criminal case was sent to the court against a resident of the Republic of Kalmykia, who illegally copied personal data from the information systems of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office reported.
The investigation found that from November 2022 to April 2023, the defendant, not being a police officer, but with the consent of officials of the territorial internal affairs body, was unlawfully admitted to their workplaces. "During this period, using electronic authorization tools in the departmental information systems of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, at the request of third parties, he illegally obtained data on the owners of vehicles and driver's licenses. He has 20 episodes of criminal activity on his account," the prosecutor's office said.
The criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal access to legally protected computer information, resulting in its copying) was sent to the Gorodovikovsky District Court of the Republic of Kalmykia for consideration on the merits. The accused faces up to 2 years in prison.
