During the operation to combat cybercrime in Thailand, more than 14 thousand people were arrested, and assets worth 4.5 billion baht were frozen.

As a result of a large-scale special operation to combat cybercrime conducted by the Royal Thai Police in the last seven months, significant progress has been made in the fight against online fraud, the National News Bureau of Thailand reports.

The efforts of law enforcement agencies led to the detention of more than 14 thousand people associated with fraudulent call centers or involved in fraudulent schemes, investment fraud and illegal online gambling operations.

Authorities successfully froze assets worth 4.5 billion baht related to criminal activity. Negotiations are currently underway with the Anti-Money Laundering Authority to return funds to fraud victims.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is also stepping up efforts to combat cybercrime. Last month, the ministry announced that it was blocking access to gambling sites and disabling millions of suspicious mobile numbers.

The measures taken reflect the ICErC's determination to protect the digital space and citizens from cyber threats. The Ministry has established a central coordination center and cooperates with various agencies to counter online threats.

In addition, the Ministry is working on draft secondary laws within the Digital Platforms Decree to regulate online platforms and protect users ' rights. The initiatives aim to create a more secure and secure digital environment.

As part of the development of cloud computing and artificial intelligence technologies, the ICEiO has established a partnership with Huawei Cloud Thailand, a cloud service from Huawei for storing almost any type of data. The collaboration aims to transform Thailand's digital economy and strengthen its cybersecurity capabilities.

The large-scale operation against online fraud and the efforts of the ICEiO demonstrate Thailand's serious approach to combating cybercrime. The country's authorities seek to create a secure digital space for citizens and businesses, while simultaneously returning stolen funds to fraud victims.

These initiatives are an important step towards building a robust and thriving digital economy in Thailand.

The campaign, called "Together against Cyber Threats", was launched by the Chief of the National Police of Thailand, General Damrongsak Kittiprapas. The main goal is to raise public awareness of cyber threats and encourage Internet users to be wary of online activity.

According to statistics, Thailand faces about 800 cybercrimes every day, which leads to significant financial losses. From March 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, 287,122 criminal cases related to cybercrime were registered in the country, and the total damage amounted to almost 40 billion baht.

Many of the fraudulent schemes originate from outside Thailand, where foreign criminal groups target Thai users from countries such as Cambodia and Myanmar. To address the issue of online security, UNICEF and the Thai Government have launched a campaign encouraging children and adolescents to think twice before sharing their personal information online.

In addition, in March 2023, the Royal Decree on measures to protect and combat technological Crimes came into force in Thailand, which calls on banks and service providers to provide assistance in combating cybercrime and fraud.

Thailand demonstrates a serious approach to addressing the problem of cybercrime by combining the efforts of law enforcement agencies, government agencies and international organizations. Large-scale operations, legislative initiatives and information campaigns are aimed at creating a safer digital environment in the country.
