"I will not disclose any names until the investigation is completed, but please beware of any emails suggesting the distribution of cryptocurrency received within 24 hours," the head of the company warned.

CoinGecko co-founder and chief Operating Officer Bobby Ong also reported on the possible hacking of the service. According to him, malicious emails are sent on behalf of crypto firms and contain offers to distribute coins.

"Potentially, we at CoinGecko may also be affected, so we are actively working with our supplier to further investigate and determine the extent of the problem. We have seen phishing emails on behalf of CoinGecko sent from other client accounts," he added.

Ong reminded that the service for tracking crypto assets does not intend to launch its own token.

In January, email marketing service provider Mailer Lite fell victim to an attack that caused more than $600,000 in damage. The incident affected Cointelegraph, Wallet Connect, Token Terminal, and several DeFi projects.
