Decentralized websites and a Mini App Store for a billion users.
Telegram messenger has introduced a new built-in browser that supports decentralized sites called "TON Sites". The new feature is available on both mobile devices and computers. This innovation makes Web3 available to almost a billion Telegram users.
The new browser allows users to switch between site browsing and messaging, combining communication and news consumption. With TON Sites, Telegram users can run web servers and host their sites on The Open Network.
In addition, Telegram announced the launch of the Mini App Store, which was promised earlier and is now available to users. Using the Mini App Store, users can send "Stars" — units of the Mini App payment system — to their friends.
More than 500 million of Telegram's 950 million users interact with Mini Apps every month. One of the most popular apps is Hamster Kombat, a crypto game where players tap on a hamster to earn tokens and improve their virtual cryptocurrency exchange. Launched just four months ago, this game has already gained over 300 million players and is the third fastest to reach 150 million users.
Another popular Telegram-based platform is Catizen's Web3 social entertainment platform, which has attracted 26 million players and earned $ 16 million in in-app purchases since its launch in March. Approximately $ 160,000 of this amount was used to save stray cats.
According to CoinGecko, Hamster Kombat and Catizen use the native cryptocurrency of The Open Network, Toncoin (TON), which has grown by 467% over the past 12 months and reached a value of $ 6.78.
The Open Network also continues to be developed on the blockchain. The TON Core team, together with Tonkeeper, has launched a new W5 smart wallet standard that promises gas-free transactions. This innovation significantly reduces barriers for new users, allowing them to interact with the TON ecosystem without having to purchase Toncoin first.
