Telegram expanded its cooperation with US law enforcement agencies in 2024, responding to 900 requests over the past 12 months. However, there were only 14 of them in the period up to September 30, the remaining 886 were in the last three months of the year. According to the Transparency Reports bot, the requests affected 2,253 people.

“This jump indicates a significant increase in the number of satisfied law enforcement requests sent to Telegram,” 404 Media journalists noted, noting that the next batch of statistics will be published in April 2025.

A month after Pavel Durov's arrest in Paris in August 2024, the company updated its privacy policy, stating that the company would provide user data, including IP addresses and phone numbers, in response to valid legal orders. Previously, the document mentioned that the messenger would only do so in cases related to terrorism.

Kaspersky Lab analysts previously predicted a migration of cybercriminals from Telegram back to darknet forums in 2025. In their opinion, this will happen despite a surge in cybercriminal activity in the messenger, and will be explained by frequent blocking of shadow channels.
