Employees just shrug their shoulders, faced with a wave of questions from customers.

Ahold Delhaize, the largest grocery retailer on the East Coast of the United States, faced a major cyber incident that affected its U.S. store chains, including Stop & Shop, Food Lion, and Hannaford. It is reported that due to the attack, shoppers in the northeast of the United States are increasingly finding empty shelves in stores.

On November 8, Ahold Delhaize USA released a statement that its internal networks had been subjected to a cyberattack and immediately notified law enforcement agencies. In order to minimize the damage, cybersecurity experts have been brought in and some systems have been temporarily shut down. The incident affected the work of pharmacies and the company's online platforms.

Although the retailer assured that stores continue to serve customers, reports on social networks indicate the opposite: users complain about the lack of goods and the confusion of employees on the ground.

According to publications in local media, Stop & Shop stores located in Massachusetts are experiencing serious supply disruptions. Store managers attribute the situation to logistics problems due to a cyberattack, which led to delays in the delivery of products.

The company did not disclose whether there were leaks of customer or employee data. So far, no hacking group has claimed responsibility for the incident. In a statement, Ahold Delhaize emphasizes that the security of customer and employee data remains a priority.

The Dutch-Belgian company Ahold Delhaize, founded in 2016, unites 16 brands in nine countries, but this cyber incident affected only its American networks. This case underscores the fragility of today's digital systems, on which not only business processes depend, but also the daily lives of millions of people.
